Hot Tub Aromatherapy – Your Hot Tub Fragrance Guide

Your hot tub is a purpose-made space for relaxation. The combination of hot, bubbling water, low level lighting and massage jets creates the ideal atmosphere for winding down. But what if we told you, you could make your hot tub sessions even more calming with the help of fragrance?

Hot tubs provide their calming effect by stimulating several senses: they soothe the muscles and relax the body through aquatic massage. They stimulate our sense of sound with the tranquil bubbling and running of water and soft, underwater lighting stimulates our visual senses and sets a peaceful mood. However, with most hot tub experiences, there is one thing missing, and that’s aroma. Aside from the occasional whiff of chlorine, your sense of smell is typically not being stimulated as you relax in your spa, meaning you are not using it to its full potential. Even you sense of taste can be stimulated if you choose to enjoy a nice cold beverage or favourite snack as you soak. So, how can you use your hot tub to its full potential, and enjoy an even more relaxing spa session? With the power hot tub fragrances of course!

What are Hot Tub Fragrances?

Hot tub fragrances come in two forms: crystals and liquids. Just as you add bubble bath or bath salts to your bathtub, hot tub fragrances are added to your hot tub to enhance your experience. However unlike bubble bath or other bath products, hot tub fragrances are specifically designed for use in your outdoor spa and should not unbalance your hot tubs water, nor should they leave behind any residue.

Direct Hot tubs stocks a range of specially blended hot tub fragrances from Spazazz.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment using scented natural plant extracts (essential oils) or other aroma compounds to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing. There is limited research to back up the effectiveness of aromatherapy, however various studies have shown a link between aromatherapy and the improvement of various ailments and conditions, both physiological and psychological. The practice of aromatherapy dates back to ancient times. Many ancient civilisations including ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese, Indians and Romans used essential oils for therapeutic, spiritual, hygienic and even ritualistic purposes.

Although there is no significant evidence to back up the effectiveness of aromatherapy, most of us continue to use scented products in our homes, in our beauty routines and even in our cars simply because we enjoy the scent of them. Whether we enjoy it because it lifts our mood, calms us rekindles happy memories or we simply just…like it, most of use aromatherapy all the time, without even knowing it. Remember, even if you don’t feel aromatherapy will provide much physiological or physiological benefit as many people claim it to, this doesn’t mean you can’t enhance your hot tub experience with the power of aroma.

Hot Tub Care – Autumn Care Guide

Hot Tub Care – Autumn Care Guide

Autumn equals perfect hot tub weather! The crisp, cool air makes relaxing in a hot, bubbling spa feel that little bit more special. Make sure your hot tub is in top condition with our autumn care guide.

Keeping a hot tub well maintained is easy if you follow the little and often rule. A little maintenance here and there will mean the bigger jobs like emptying your spa and cleaning out filters won’t need to be done as often. It will also help reduce the likelihood of technical issues and improve your spas lifespan.

Your autumn spa care kit

First things first, when it comes to looking after your hot tub, you’ll need the right kit. There are hundereds of hot tub and spa care gadgets on the market, but only a few simple tools are needed for a clean and hygienic spa. Your hot tub care kit can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. It all depends on how much time and effort you want to pour into your spa. Some spa owners consider their hot tub their pride and joy, primping and polishing it whenever they get the chance. Other hot tub owners prefer to keep cleaning and maintenance tasks to a minimum, doing only what is necessary to enjoy a healthy spa. Whatever type of hot tub owner you are you’ll need a set of basic tools to keep your hot tub well maintained. As well as the essential spa sanitizers, you’ll also need…

Towel

Any hot tub owner will know a towel is an essential for cleaning. Next time you clean out your bathroom cupboards, don’t throw out those old bleach stained towels, instead put them aside for hot tub use. Towels come in very handy for drying down the hot tub lid between uses as well as drying the cabinet and shell after cleaning. The more towels the better!

Microfibre cloth

Keep a colourfast microfiber cloth handy to wipe down the outer shell and control panel. Do this between uses to reduce grime build up.

Waterline cloth/sponge

Wipe along the waterline 2 to three times a week to remove scum build up and prevent tide marks with a soft cloth or special waterline sponge. Run the spa afterwards to draw the oils into the filter. This task only takes a few minutes, but doing so will help prevent hours of cleaning in future!

Spa skimmer/scoop

Falling autumn leaves may be beautiful to look at, but leaves and other wind-swept debris can cause your filter to become clogged or prematurely full. Each time you open your spas cover, you welcome new debris into the water. After every soak, take a couple of minutes to skim your spas water and remove any floating debris.

Before Each Use:

Check Chemical levels and PH balance

If the water’s sanitizer levels aren’t balanced, don’t get in the tub. Add sanitizer or balancing chemicals if needed and leave a few hours before testing again.

Shower

Rinse off cosmetics like body lotion, makeup and hair products before entering the tub with a brisk shower. This will prevent them from entering the tub where they will cause oil build up and clog the filter.

Daily

• Check chemical levels and PH balance and adjust accordingly
• Wipe down outer shell and control panel
• Skim

Weekly

Rinse and Wipe down cover (or use a cover protector)

Autumn brings with it more wind, rain and falling debris than your spas cover is used to in summer. This means the cover will become dirtier quicker. Clean and dry down the cover once a week with a simple soap and water solution and a clean old towel. Doing so will help to prevent mould, alge and general dirt build up on the cover. Keeping your cover well maintained will prolong its lifespan and ensure good insulation as the temperature drops.

If you don’t have the time or patience to regularly clean your spas cover, use a cover protector instead. You can choose a protector that either covers the lid only or the full spa including the shell. Some cover protectors can also help provide additional insulation.
